Normally when I create a showreel or something that requires music I compose it myself, alas creating my latest showreel I was too busy and just didn’t have time. I looked on the web for sites that offer music downloads for use on commercial projects, I found a wealth of resources that offer royalty free, free downloads. Below are a few that I think are really great.…

http://www.openmusicarchive.org

Openmusicarichive.org is a archive of music whose copyright has expired. This music can be used by anyone for any purpose. Mainly blues and Jazz , great if you are going for a vintage feel.

Lovely site with tons of music available under the Creative Commons license – worth checking out!

http://www.jamendo.com

Lots of downloads and diverse range of styles available under the Creative Commons. Remember to check that the music you want to use is licensed for commercial usage.

http://www.soundclick.com

Another great site with lots of diverse styles. I like the way the search listings make it clear which tracks are available for commercial use, makes it a lot easier to narrow down your search.

Some good stuff can be found on this site, you can search by mood/feel, which is really handy.

Mainly classical music, some lovely stuff, I really like this site.

Some more?

The Creative Commons website also has a list of free music sites so check it out. Also contains some good advice about using music under the Creative Commons licence.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
