The Little Prince – Illustration

A Stellar Journey: Illustrating The Little Prince for The Egg, Bath

In a recent project, we had the opportunity to create an illustration for the upcoming production of “The Little Prince” at The Egg, Bath. Written and performed by Toby Thompson and directed by Nik Partridge, this adaptation promised to be as magical as the beloved story itself.

Brief

  • Style and Tone: Inspired by the whimsical charm of Midnight Mole, a previous illustration we did for The Egg, I aimed for a blend of fantasy and realism. Every stroke was imbued with a sense of wonder, echoing the enchanting narrative of “The Little Prince.”
  • Key Elements: The challenge was to incorporate Toby Thompson’s likeness into the character of the little prince while deciding between iconic motifs – the rose or the fox.
  • Narrative Points: Set against a backdrop of a starry sky adorned with planets, our little prince (inspired by Toby) shares an intimate moment with a radiant rose – capturing an essence both ethereal and grounded.

Process

We embarked on this journey with a mood board rich in celestial aesthetics and tender moments. Balancing between artistic expression and narrative fidelity was crucial. A synthesis of digital art techniques brought to life an image where stars twinkled and emotions resonated.

Outcome

The final piece is a harmonious blend of character portrayal and thematic elements from “The Little Prince.” It encapsulates not just visual appeal but also narrates an untold chapter – inviting audiences into a world where every star is a story waiting to unfold.
